MOQ is often discussed in the context of inventory or restocking planning.

But in this guide, we’re talking about the MOQ you run into when dealing with factories — the minimum quantity a factory requires to get production started.

This guide isn’t about pushing MOQ as low as possible.

Instead, it’s based on real sourcing experience and focuses on which MOQs are actually worth negotiating, when it makes sense to change your approach early on, and what practical options you have when suppliers tell you, “This quantity doesn’t meet our MOQ.”

What is MOQ in the supply chain?

MOQ refers to the minimum order quantity a supplier is willing to accept to start production or fulfill the order. Below this threshold, suppliers usually won’t take the order — or they may adjust pricing and terms.

In finished product wholesale sourcing, the most common MOQ structures are:

 • By quantity — for example, MOQ: 500 pcs/SKU
 • By order value — for example, MOQ: USD 2,000/order

Why do factories set MOQ?

Factories set MOQs not to make things difficult for buyers, but to cover fixed production costs and make production worth running.

Upfront costs don’t change with order size

Whether the order is small or large, factories still need to set up machines, prepare molds, and confirm samples. These upfront steps take time and labor.

When the quantity is too small, these fixed costs can’t be spread out properly — so either the factory says no, or the costs get pushed into the unit price.

Raw materials also have MOQs

Some MOQs don’t come from the factory itself, but from upstream suppliers. Raw materials, semi-finished components, and accessories often have their own minimum order requirements.

For example, plastic toy production requires plastic pellets, usually purchased by the ton. In apparel production, fabrics are typically ordered by the meter, often with MOQs of 300–500 meters. Trims such as zippers and buttons also have MOQs.

What really drives MOQ differences across products?

Standardized, ready-made products have lower MOQs

For highly standardized daily-use products with mature designs already on the market, MOQs can range from just a few dozen to a few hundred units. These products usually rely on existing molds and well-established production lines — such as storage boxes, coasters, and other small household items.

If the supplier already has inventory in stock, the MOQ can be even lower, sometimes just a few units.

For the same type of ready-made, standardized products, MOQs on Alibaba are usually similar to those across Chinese wholesale platforms.

Alibaba

Global Sources

In comparison, DHgate focuses more on small-batch wholesale, with typical MOQs starting from just a dozen units per style. Suppliers on DHgate usually display clear tiered MOQs with corresponding prices, which makes the platform more friendly for buyers running small tests or trial orders.

Dhgate small wholesale MOQ

The deeper the customization, the higher the MOQ

Light customization

If you’re making simple changes to existing products—such as adding a logo or customizing the packaging—the MOQ is usually manageable. For most daily products, it’s typically around 300–500 units per design.

Deep customization

Once you start changing the product materials, structure, or functions, MOQs go up fast. For example:

 • Custom socks with special fabrics or non-standard colors usually need at least 1,000 pairs per style, size, and color.
 • If private molds are involved, the MOQ often starts at 1,000 units or more.

Which types of products usually have more flexible MOQs?

Handcrafted or semi-handcrafted products

Common examples include:

 • Textile products such as clothing and cushions
 • Wooden products such as toys, handicrafts, and furniture

These products rely more on manual labor than fully automated production lines, so startup costs are lower and MOQs are generally more flexible.

 • T-shirts/hoodies: logo printing usually requires 50–100 pcs; custom designs based on your artwork typically start at 300 pcs per style per color
 • Wooden sofas/office desks & chairs: often 1 piece to start
 • Wooden toys: about 200 pcs per style for simple structures; around 2,000 pcs per style for complex structures

Actual MOQs still depend on the specific product and the level of customization involved.

High-value products

The higher the unit value, the more flexible suppliers usually are with MOQs. For example:

 • Custom packaging: regular boxes typically require 300–500 pcs, while high-end gift boxes can start from 100–200 units/style.
 • Corrugated display stands: the MOQ is often as low as 10 sets.
 • Electric tricycles: with custom body color, configurations, and branding, suppliers may accept as low as 1 unit, usually treated as a sample order.

Which types of products usually have rigid MOQs?

Low-value products involving mold development

Molding costs often start from a few thousand USD. When spread over low-value products, factories naturally require large order volumes, leaving very little room for negotiation. MOQs are usually quite rigid.

 • For example, custom-size plastic bowls or containers — MOQs typically start at around 10,000 pcs.
 • For cosmetic bottles with unique shapes, the MOQ is typically around 50,000 pcs per style.

Products requiring complex processes or special equipment

Some products cannot be made using standard equipment. For example, seamless underwear, seamless compression wear, or diabetic socks usually require specialized production machines.

These machines are expensive, and both setup and trial costs are high. As a result, MOQs are not only high but also hard to negotiate.

When and how MOQ negotiation actually works?

1. Don’t ask “Can you lower the MOQ?” — Ask why it’s high

When a factory quotes its MOQ, many people’s first reaction is: “Can you lower it?”

But asking that right away rarely helps. MOQ varies a lot from product to product, so it can’t be generalized. Even with the same product and customization, MOQs can be different depending on how it’s done.

For example, adding a logo to a water bottle: laser engraving can often be done with just one unit, while screen printing usually starts at around 500 pcs.

So negotiating MOQ isn’t about pushing the number down right away. It’s about first understanding why that minimum exists, and whether there are alternative ways to achieve a similar result with a lower starting quantity.

MOQ negotiation usually works best when the gap isn’t huge.
For example, if a supplier’s MOQ is 2,000 units and you need 1,500, there’s often room to make it work with the right communication and approach.

2. Accept higher unit prices when MOQ is small

At the end of the day, small-batch negotiation is about finding a balance both sides can accept. Expecting low quantities and low prices at the same time isn’t realistic — factories won’t produce at a loss.

When your order is small, being willing to pay a slightly higher unit price so the factory can still make money often makes them much more willing to work with you.

3. Reduce variants — avoid all-at-once launches

Many startups and even well-funded businesses start with big ambitions—launching a full product line with multiple styles and colors at once.

But this is risky: high upfront costs, long lead time, and no clear market validation.

A more practical approach is to research first, then test the market with 3–5 high-potential variants—keeping risk, inventory, cash pressure, and total MOQ under control.

Because MOQ is usually calculated per variant—such as style, color, size, or material.

Example

When customizing handbag colors, the MOQ is often 300 units per color, per style. Launching too many styles and colors at the start quickly pushes the total order size up.

Starting with the three best-selling styles with custom colors keeps quantities manageable and lets you test the market with lower risk.

Another case

We once worked with an animation company that wanted to turn its IP characters into plush toys, silicone figurines, keychains, and phone cases—all at the same time.

What they didn’t realize at first was that each product type required mold development. The molding costs alone ran into tens of thousands of dollars, and the overall MOQ quickly became very high.

That is too risky, especially when it’s still unclear how the market will respond to new IP products.

So we advised them to start with plush toys, which have the lowest production cost, and then decide whether to move forward with new product development based on real market feedback.

For reference only, not client’s final product

4. Increase the upfront payment

Small orders mean higher risks for factories.

If you’re willing to increase the upfront payment—for example, paying more than the standard 30% deposit and 70% balance, or even paying 100% upfront for smaller orders—factories are more likely to see your sincerity and feel that you’re easy to work with.

In many cases, better payment terms matter more than pushing hard on MOQ itself.

5. Show you’re not a one-off buyer

Share your target market, sales plan, and budget. Show suppliers you’re serious, prepared, and capable of execution—that’s what helps suppliers see long-term potential.

Don’t overpromise. Vague claims like “orders will be huge later” or “we’ll work long term” are things suppliers hear every day—and pushing them too hard can backfire.

Most importantly, keep your expectations realistic. If you’ve already tested the market—through KOL, Kickstarter or Indiegogo campaigns, or actual orders and sales data—show the results directly. That usually makes MOQ discussions much easier.

At its core, MOQ negotiation is a value exchange. The deal only moves forward when the supplier can still make money.

When you can’t meet the MOQ, instead of fixating on a single number, it’s often smarter to be more flexible about how you work together. Getting the supplier willing to work with you and push the project forward matters more than the MOQ itself.

Is MOQ blocking your project? How China Product Agent can help?

Finding suppliers isn’t hard. What really drains time and energy is the communication cost—reaching out to factory after factory, explaining your requirements over and over again, negotiating MOQs repeatedly, and still ending up with results that may not be ideal.

Based in China’s major manufacturing hubs, China Product Agent has always worked closely with factories on the ground. Our network includes small workshops, as well as mid-sized and large factories.

We match you with the right factory based on your actual needs, so you don’t have to keep starting from scratch and learning through trial and error.

Many buyers test the market with small trial orders—reorder quickly if it works, and switch products fast if it doesn’t.

This is similar to Shein’s “small-batch and fast turnaround production model”. What makes this model work is a highly stable and well-developed supply chain behind it.

Our role is to integrate your supply chains in China, making it easy to source.

We integrate and manage the entire supply chain for you—from raw materials and components to semi-finished processing, assembly, and final products—coordinating all parties and driving the project end to end. This enables projects to start faster and move forward more smoothly and flexibly.

We handle small orders well. Because we bring factories long-term, repeat business, small orders aren’t the problem—one-off orders are. That’s why they’re more flexible on MOQs and pricing when working with us.

More than 150 million consumers favor using AliExpress to buy a wide range of low-priced, relatively high-quality Chinese products. However, many first-time buyers experience issues like slow shipping, no tracking updates, and sellers asking them to wait longer when they open a dispute. These issues often leave them questioning, “Is AliExpress safe to buy?”

In this post, I’ll objectively analyze the 6 most common questions and share practical tips to help you avoid them for a happy shopping experience on AliExpress.

1. Is AliExpress legit?

Yes, AliExpress is 100% legit. Launched by Alibaba Group, AliExpress is China’s largest cross-border B2C platform, with strict rules to ensure legal transactions.

2. Why is AliExpress so cheap?

The main reasons for AliExpress’s cheapness are:

Connects Chinese sellers directly with consumers, cutting out the middleman. So prices are much lower than Amazon. Here is a consumer buying from AliExpress for 10 years, saying that prices can be 50% lower than on Amazon for most items.

Use economic cross-border shipping–cheap but with a long delivery time and unstable.

3. Is it safe to buy from AliExpress?

AliExpress itself is reliable and a good place to buy simple and small Chinese items at very low prices. AliExpree has buyer protection to keep you safe in 3 major aspects.

 • Protect your privacy from being stolen, such as bank account information.
 • Offer a refund if you don’t receive the package or there’s a long delay in getting the parcel.
 • Provide a refund if the items are not as described in the product listing.

That is to say, you don’t have to worry about AliExpress’s overall environment. This is reflected in the 155,067 AliExpress reviews on Trustpilot, where 80% rate it 4 or 5 stars.

4. Why do some people think Aliexpress is a scam? (4 reasons)

“Scam” is a little bit exaggerated. On each platform, you will experience good and unpleasant experiences. Just like this Reddit user put it—very objective.

By analyzing Trustpilot’s negative reviews about AliExpress, I found that 80% of the complaints most frequently mentioned delivery delays, lack of tracking, products not meeting expectations, and unpleasant dispute processes. These are 4 main reasons why customers feel insecure.

There’s a long delay in getting the parcel.

Generally, it takes 20-60 days to ship packages from China with free shipping. Delivery to some places such as the US and Australia is around 20-30 days.

But in many remote areas, it can take over 60 days, sometimes even up to 75 days. In the worst cases, parcels may get lost in transit. This can be frustrating, leading many customers to request refunds.

AliExpress shiping delays or parcel lost

The tracking info is not updated in time.

You may always find the parcel at the same airport in China or the destination country without any other updated shipping information 1 to 2 weeks after placing an order. If you don’t receive the parcel after 60 days, you can’t judge if the parcel is still in transit or lost. The seller can’t check the parcel status, either, and just can tell you to wait for a few more days.

The abovementioned 2 issues happen with economy shipping options like Cainiao Super Economy. It’s the cheapest but takes a long time to arrive as it works between China Post/Chinese logistics services + postal services of the destination country. Delays and lost packages are more often in areas with inadequate postal services like Africa.

Many people shop on AliExpress because the prices are low and they’re okay with the wait. But if you don’t want to wait, you can pay a bit extra for faster options like AliExpress Standard Shipping or choose to ship from the U.S. You can also look for items marked ‘Choice’—items shipped and handled by AliExpress with faster delivery, around 10 days.

AliExpress Choice items with 10-day delivery

The item buyers receive is not what they expected.

If you receive the wrong items, inferiors or the damaged parcel, 99% of sellers are willing to resend products to you. But if you don’t want to wait for a long time, you can choose to ask for a refund. Sellers will agree to refund you.

But there is another situation: you think the item is inferior or fake just as it fails to meet your high expectations. Especially with branded items on AliExpress, like the “latest” pair of Nike shoes for $30 with free shipping, it’s clear they won’t be as good as the original ones. As long as the quality aligns with a $30 value, it’s acceptable. Here are 2 AliExpress users’ comments.

Some buyers think “buyer production” doesn’t work well.

Some consumers think the buyer protection service on AliExpress does not act as a qualified mediator to protect their rights well.

For example, the buyer, as shown in the image below, received a damaged item and found it unusable. So, he opened a dispute for a full refund. The seller didn’t respond. Then, the platform stepped into the dispute and judged a 50% refund, because it wasn’t completely unusable; and if insisting on a full refund, the buyer need to return it to China at his own expense.

aliexpress review - bad protection for buyers

The platform will check the submitted evidence and make judgments by points. Generally, it is easy to prove the damage to products. As for product uselessness, your evidence should be strong and sufficient enough. If not, the platform can’t judge whether the item is completely useless. This may be the reason for the decision of a 50% refund.

In such a situation, if you still want a full refund, the only way is to return the item first. The cross-border logistics cost is certainly not low. At this point, you need to consider whether the product value is worth it. Generally, if there is something wrong with your order, which is delivered from China, the common solution is to directly refund you or resend items.

5. How to select reliable suppliers to buy?

Most sellers do business honestly. However, there are indeed some unethical suppliers selling poor-quality or damaged goods, such as eBay, Amazon, etc. Therefore, you need to find a reliable supplier for safer shopping.

Start by scanning product reviews and store feedback—this is a basic step. Be cautious of stores with only one review or low order counts. Also, pay close attention to product detail pages. A good detail page should cover all the information you want. The following 2 aspects are very important elements.

Is there a detailed product description?

The overall structure, details, and glossiness of the product will be truly shown in 6 product photos without excessive beautification. Many sellers will show how to use the product in a short video. For example, the store selling fishing lures displays how to use the fishing lure in the short video.

the good image of products

In the product listing, all parameters of the products will be stated in the section, including material, packaging, operation instruction, delivery time, after-sales service, etc. Customers can obtain enough sense of security from such a product listing.

Taking the fishing lure store as an example, as many small sellers or startups can’t provide such a detailed product listing, especially the delivery time chart below, we can conclude that it must be a powerful seller specialized in the fishing lures.

delivery time of different countries

Don’t pay sellers outside of Aliexpress.

Watch out for sellers who ask you to directly send money to their accounts outside of AliExpress. Generally, this situation is rare, but still worth your attention. By doing so, you will lose buyer protection if the seller delivers items not as described, or wrong items, or nothing.

Bear in mind that you should always pay directly on the AliExpress website. Among various international payment options, such as debit or credit card, Paypal, and Webmoney, many buyers prefer to use Paypal and credit cards, as they can open a dispute if there is something wrong with the order and get a fund after the dispute.

6. What’s the right time to open a dispute and file a claim?

There are many complaints about the dispute from customers. For example, when customers can’t receive their parcels after waiting for a long time, they will ask the sellers about the shipping situation, but they don’t get any response from sellers.

Or sellers just tell them to wait for more time or extend delivery time directly, such as changing 60 to 90 days. Under such circumstances, customers will choose to get a refund on the AliExpress platform.

But there is a rule for you to submit refund applications on AliExpress.

The first situation

Your order is not received within the confirmation date. Confirmation dates vary according to the sellers’ stated delivery time, usually 60 days maximum calculated from the seller confirming the order has been shipped.

Hence, although you think it is urgent, you are allowed to open the dispute after the agreed confirmation date. For example, the agreed date between you and the sellers is 75 days, and you can open the dispute after 75 days.

After submitting the Open Dispute Form, the seller has 15 days to respond and try to reach an agreement with you. If no agreement is reached within the 15-day time period, the dispute automatically becomes a claim (see file a claim). Claims are reviewed and mediated by the AliExpress Case Management Team.

If you don’t hear back from the seller or if you feel negotiations are not moving forward, you do not have to wait until the 15-day dispute period ends – you may file a claim within 3 days of opening a dispute.

Therefore, really don’t worry too much, as long as you don’t get your package, you certainly can get your full refund.

The second situation

If the goods you received are not in a satisfactory condition, open a dispute, and fill out the dispute form provided. You had better explain the issue in an explicit video or photos, then communicate with the seller about partial refunds or full refunds.

If you can’t receive any responses from the seller after15 days, then the dispute will step into the claim stage. AliExpress will involve in the dispute directly. Under such a circumstance, if sellers should be responsible for the issue, you certainly can get a full refund from Aliexpress.

Because of the uncontrollable international logistics on Aliexpress, it will provide the seller with 15 days to tackle the problems. Hence, the refund process will be relatively slow. Besides, the time to get a refund varies for different bank accounts, what you need to do is just to wait patiently and check your bank account.

Different from Aliexpress, Amazon will deal with the dispute directly, skipping the communicating stage between sellers and buyers, so you can get your refund earlier.

In short, you can protect their rights on AliExpress by going through a dispute, but you should first contact and negotiate with the seller for a solution.

There are many complaints about the dispute from customers. For example, when customers can’t receive their parcels after waiting for a long time, they will ask the sellers about the shipping situation, but they don’t get any response from sellers.

The post Find Good Dropshipping Niches: Beginners’ Practical Guide appeared first on .

]]>

Nowadays, doing a dropshipping business isn’t easy. Although it’s a low-cost, low-risk e-commerce business model that alleviates the burden of inventory, sellers primarily sell on-stock products and often find themselves in fierce competition. To differentiate oneself in a crowded market, finding a small niche can be an effective strategy. Today’s blog is to address the following 5 top questions about dropshipping niches.

What is the best niche for dropshipping?

The best e-commerce niches indeed vary from one dropshipper to another. Some individuals have a keen eye for spotting trending products that are easy to sell with small advertising expenses and can earn fast money. Take ‘3D Gravity Carrot Knife’ plastic toys as an example, which went viral on social media platforms like TikTok. Some quick-thinking sellers spotted this trend and sold such items rapidly on Amazon, eBay, etc., capitalizing on the demand surge and making quick profits.

In essence, the niche options mainly depend on personal expertise, available funds, and specific purposes to start dropshipping.

Start dropshipping with a general store or single product store?

It’s a top concern to many beginners in dropshipping – a single product store or a general store, which is best to start? Here are recent 2 questions in the “r/dropship” community of Reddit.

The dropshipping model we’re most familiar with is to dropship dozens or hundreds of different product types in general stores for reselling, just like the screenshot mentioned “selling Christmas supplies or various gadgets like lamps”.

This model essentially casts a wide net, leveraging information gaps and heavy advertising to drive traffic and make money. However, the internet has made information highly transparent, and the cost of acquiring traffic is high, making it harder to profit, especially for beginners with limited budgets.

Because products selling well will quickly be followed by a large number of sellers entering the market. Some can sell items at lower prices and with stable product quality & supply due to wholesaling benefits. It’s hard for small dropshippers to compete. Although there might be some profit, you have to spend much effort & time constantly selecting new products & running ads to drive traffic. Over time, profits decrease, making it unsustainable for business growth.

Another approach is to dropship several selected types of products (e.g., lighting, tech) and list them in a single product store to test the niche market without holding inventory. This is the right way to do dropshipping.

Most of our successful startups and small clients have done just that. Once they find a product that sells well, they start small wholesale from suppliers to lower product sourcing costs, make simple customizations to differentiate and expand the product range, and meanwhile refine marketing to build their brand.

How to find dropshipping niches?

Both new and experienced dropshippers are looking for their own niches. It’s common to get inspiration by browsing major e-commerce platforms like Amazon and AliExpress and seeing what’s trendy on social media platforms, especially TikTok, Facebook, etc.

You can also find niche product ideas from Chinese suppliers. Taking China Product Agent for example, every month, we receive thousands of inquiries and compile monthly product reports to bring you inspiration about niches. Subscribe below to stay updated.

Explore the newest & hottest niche products by downloading China Product Agent’s monthly report.

We pick up the most popular items from 1,000+ orders by our clients to inspire you to find winning niches.

Beginners and small sellers should niche down into smaller markets.

Many niche markets today are broad, like pet supplies, which have become saturated with many well-established businesses. Some people choose to focus on subcategories like chicken and goose clothing, shoes, toys, etc. Some choose the emerging niche of pet funerals. Google Trends shows there has been stable search interest in pet funerals over the past year, with Canada, the US, and Singapore as the top audiences.

China Product Agent data also shows some of our clients engaged in e-commerce business in the US are involved in this dropshipping niche. Their products include POD urns with personalized pet photos, custom pet coffins with cushions or pillows, and bundle pet sacrificial supplies as kits like favorite snacks, toys, and paper money to burn. Conduct product and market competition analysis while niching down.

Niching down is to avoid highly competitive markets while ensuring there is enough demand in the chosen niche. Use tools like Google Keyword Planner to check the search volume of your niche keywords. Avoid choosing keywords with very low search volume, like a few dozen searches, which are too tiny to make money and grow your dropshipping business. Here is the search volume of pet funerals.

About analyzing competitors, use professional tools to obtain precise data for analysis. For example, use Jungle Scout to understand competitors’ product sales data and advertising spending on Amazon. SimilarWeb or SEMrush can help analyze competitors’ website traffic, including organic and paid traffic sources, to evaluate their market performance and marketing strategies.

List “stores that have been established in the last 3-4 years, with similar budgets as you and good sales data” to further analyze the following 2 aspects:

Target audience core concerns segmentation: Investigate the most critical issues that the audience cares about when using the product, such as functionality, price, style, etc. Here is a niche custom-pattern diabetic socks business case

Usage scenario segmentation: Design and promote products based on different usage scenarios or situations to meet specific user needs.

For example, MyFureverMemories, established in 2020, taps into the deep bond between pet owners and their pets and specializes in selling customized pet tombstones and memorial items. The pet funeral industry is relatively niche, so non-branded keywords are easier to rank highly. MyFureverMemories seized this opportunity to optimize SEO keywords and rank on the top page of Google, with around 11k organic traffic in the US.

Consider the product's logistics and delivery costs when estimating profits.

Before entering any dropshipping niche, it’s important to calculate the profit margins. Compared to wholesale, dropshipping may not offer advantages in product purchase prices, making the logistics and delivery costs particularly crucial in profit estimation.

Suppose you select a good niche home furniture but it has a large size and weight. The shipping prices will go crazy, greatly lowering your profits and even leading to losses. In contrast, small and lightweight products will save you a lot in transportation costs, such as T-shirts in the plus-size apparel market, kitchen gadgets, etc.

Seven dropshipping niches small sellers should avoid

Women's clothing

This market is highly competitive, and style is king. You need to be good at selecting styles, constantly launch new designs, and find suitable models and photographers to shoot eye-catching photos and videos for visual marketing. Additionally, you need marketers to effectively promote your products. All these can get costly.

Skincare and beauty products

Not only do you need enough funds to run ads for promotion, but you also need brand influence. For products applied to the face, few consumers are willing to try an unknown niche, even if you claim it’s effective, stylishly designed, and packaged luxuriously.

Products within the supplement, health, and food industries

Common examples include baby formula, dietary supplements, protein powders, etc. The risks are not worth taking. For instance, there’s a significant risk of facing legal action if a customer has an allergic reaction due to an ingredient that was not correctly labeled by your supplier. Such a scenario can be disastrous.

Copyrighted counterfeit products

Selling such items is not only an amateur and poor business practice, but it also carries legal consequences. Because counterfeits are illegal in many countries.

Products with complex tech and functions

While they may look excessively appealing, they are prone to bugs when used. This leads to bad shopping experiences for consumers and results in negative reviews, which severely affects your dropshipping business.

Extremely fragile products

On one hand, packaging and shipping costs are high. On the other hand, the high return rate from consumers increases your after-sales costs.

Seasonal products

This product type will be useless after the holiday ends unless you can transition out with new products.

Final thoughts about dropshipping niches

No one can tell you a niche that wins time and time again. Never easily believe so-called guru niche strategies. If someone is willing to share a profitable niche for free, why don’t they make that money themselves?

When you’re interested in a niche market, you should analyze and judge it yourself. List some products in that niche and run ads to see if it’s a good niche. If not, move on.

Continue that process until you find a well-performing niche. Once you find one, consider shifting to a wholesale and private label business model to lower supply chain costs and optimize advertising and SEO strategies to attract organic traffic. This is a long-term strategy that requires patience and continuous effort.

Both are important and common e-commerce business models. […]

The post Private vs White Label: Customization, Costs, Examples appeared first on .

What are the private label and white label?

White label meaning and example

White labeling means you take ready stock items, slap your logo, and customize the packaging for product differentiation. This is a quick and affordable way to enter the market with minimal upfront investment and low risk.

For example, if you’re a cat owner and want to try selling in the niche market of pet treadmills, you can start by purchasing a small batch of cat treadmills. Then, relabel and repackage them for quick sales and market testing.

Pictures are from social media platforms.

The core selling point of white-label products is their high cost-performance ratio, meeting consumers’ needs for affordable yet quality items. For example, on Amazon, you can find economical and practical white-label products like bottle openers for a few dollars and bedding sets for a few dozen dollars.

White labeling extends beyond physical products. It’s also common in software services like white-label websites. Regardless of the industry, the essence of white labeling remains the same: taking existing products and branding them as your own to meet specific market needs or preferences.

Private label meaning and example

With private labeling, you can not only add your logo and packaging but also improve existing products in terms of functions, patterns, colors, shapes, sizes, and other specifications. You can even develop a new product from scratch.

For example, suppose you are a cycling enthusiast planning to enter the niche market of cycling gloves. In that case, you conduct market research to import some popular-type gloves from Chinese suppliers, add your unique pattern designs, and then sell them on Amazon. This is selling private-label products.

White label vs private label: what are the differences?

1. Private label offers more customization than the white label.

Both white labeling and private labeling involve selling products with your logo, but they differ significantly in customization.

white label vs private label
white label vs private label

White labeling only involves adding your logo and custom packaging to ready-made products. This is the simplest customization method for startups with tight budgets.

With a somewhat flexible budget, private labeling allows you to customize more aspects like color, material, pattern, size, shape, function, etc. These are common private-label methods. Most of our successful startups and small to medium-sized clients have done just that.

For example, we had an Italian client who noticed “tufting rugs” were trending on TikTok. Most Amazon results were for tool kits, not finished rugs. He started selling custom-sized tufting rugs with unique, attractive patterns as selling points. Ultimately, he achieved good sales.

2. White labeling a product is usually quicker & cheaper than private labeling.

Product white labeling involves purchasing ready-made stock and adding your label plus custom packaging. These steps are simple and easy. Once you finalize your logo and packaging design, the factory can quickly produce samples and mass-produce the items.

For example, if you order 500 custom corrugated colorful mailer boxes (195*137*150mm) from China, sample making takes 3 days and mass production takes 7-10 days. The total custom packaging cost is $300.

If your private labeling involves adjusting the appearance, size, or function of an existing product, or developing a completely new one, the time and costs required will vary and should be specifically analyzed.

Simple customizations are usually fast and affordable, such as printing your patterns, and changing colors, sizes, materials, etc.

For complex customization and product development, significant time is spent on prototyping and modeling. Especially mold making is a huge expense. For example, a client custom-made a silicone baby plate, and the mold alone cost $2,000, not including labor and materials.

what is injection molding
Picture from Alibaba

Manufacturing silicone products, metal parts, plastic, and rubber products requires molds. Many beginners are completely unaware that customizing such products—whether design, size, or shape changes—can lead to high molding fees. Just like our client Mazin.

White vs private label: which is better for startups to make money?

White labeling is an easier way to start an e-commerce business. White labeling is an easier way to start an e-commerce business. This is especially true for repeat-purchase items, where consistent demand allows new sellers to efficiently validate branding and pricing strategies before committing to the higher costs of product development, tooling, or deeper customization.

All you need to do is customize the packaging and add your own logo to existing products. These tasks are easy to learn and require minimal time investment, with customization costs being affordable and friendly for beginners.

In contrast, private labeling generally requires you to better understand the products, target audiences, and marketing. Over the past 10 years, we have successfully assisted over 4,000 clients worldwide in their private label businesses, mainly Amazon and e-commerce sellers in the US and EU markets. Further Asked Questions

Is private label the same as white label?

No. White labeling products are only limited to logo and packaging customization, while private labeling products have no limitations. In simple terms, white labeling is just a small subset of private labeling.

Private label vs brand, what is the difference?

Private-label products are essentially non-branded items. For example, when buying storage boxes/bags, or garbage bags, most consumers choose private label sellers for lower prices.

However, for items like phones, consumers prefer name brands like Apple, Huawei, etc., and for skincare, brands like Estée Lauder. Compared to private-label phones and skincare products, consumers tend to trust well-known brands that have proven their quality and after-sales service over five to ten years.

Private label vs manufacturer brand, what’s their difference?

Manufacturer Brand means a company designs, develops, and produces its products. For example, Tesla has both the capability to create and manufacture cars.

Private label means retailers or companies sell products under their own label and logo, but these products are produced by third-party manufacturers, also called ODM and OEM manufacturers.

]]>

These are the two questions that come up yearly: Is it too late to start an e-commerce business with dropshipping now? Can dropshipping still make money? Today’s post objectively analyzes these hot dropshipping questions and shares insights from China sourcing experts.

Is dropshipping dead?

No, dropshipping is still alive. However, it’s not as easy as some gurus claim. If it were that simple, everyone would be financially free. Whether you can make money depends entirely on your approach, such as the products you select to sell, your marketing strategies, and your initial reasons for choosing dropshipping.

meme about being rich

What are the three modes of dropshipping?

There are currently three dropshipping modes, each with different marketing strategies.

The traditional mode like AliExpress dropshipping

The most familiar dropshipping mode to us is to dropship products from AliExpress and resell them in your store. This approach indeed requires no upfront investment in inventory, making it low-risk. Some people have made money through this mode by listing thousands of products and aggressively advertising them. However, this is only a tiny minority. The majority, around 99%, have failed.

Because this dropshipping mode relies heavily on listing a wide variety of products and continuously advertising to drive traffic. To make money, the price difference between retail and purchase prices must be large enough to cover the advertising costs.

However, the lifespan of products is not very long. Once one of your products starts selling well, many other sellers will quickly join in. At this point, you must search for new products and restart your advertising efforts. You never know when the product you’re selling well will die off. So, you need to continually find new products and optimize advertising strategies.

meme for crazy

This is a time-consuming and labor-intensive process. Moreover, it demands a high level of expertise in product selection, advertising, and operations. This is why most people fail and claim that “dropshipping is dead”.

Dropshipping as an approach to test products & markets at low costs

Another popular approach to dropshipping is to test products and markets, rather than using it to make money.

Just like many of our clients starting their e-commerce businesses, they know nothing about products and marketing, so they tend to invest small amounts of money to test selected types of products. Once they discover that certain products sell well, they’ll focus their efforts on these, refining marketing and operations to make profits and build their brand.

This approach is less tiring than the mode of mass product upload and advertising promotion. Not only is this dropshipping mode worth it in 2024, but it’s also sustainable for long-term business development.

Dropshipping as a fulfillment way to optimize the supply chain

Most successful dropshipping sellers will reach this stage – utilizing dropshipping to optimize their supply chain and reduce costs.

Some of our clients entered e-commerce with dropshipping, and as they gained experience, they developed a certain level of product mindset and operational capabilities. They want to improve their supply chain management to reduce product, logistics, and warehousing costs.

Typically, they concentrate on some well-performing products, sourcing and stocking in moderate quantities, such as holding two weeks or a month’s worth of inventory in our warehouse. Through bulk purchasing, they can obtain factory product prices. For their goods, we’ll ship batches to their fulfillment centers as required or help them with dropshipping from China, saving on product logistics and warehousing fees.

Is dropshipping still profitable?

Whether dropshipping can be profitable closely relates to some key factors, including where you sell your products, the type of products you sell, how you market and promote your goods, etc.

Different platforms varying in store operation and marketing

On major e-commerce platforms, especially on Amazon, operational refinement has long been underway. Additionally, most Amazon sellers use FBA or find a 3PL with warehouses in their target markets for order fulfillment.

If your product lacks any significant advantages, using the approach to directly dropshipping from your supplier (like AliExpress dropshipping) will result in longer delivery times for packages to reach customers. More importantly, product quality relies entirely on your supplier, and inadequate after-sales service can lead to poor shopping experiences, making it difficult to compete successfully.

If using Shopify to set up a store on Google and some plugins to integrate the store with the selected dropshipping supplier, you can list a wide range of products, rather than just relying on several items. Under this case, advertising and website operations are very important. Running and optimizing ads on Google and social media platforms require different advertising strategies. So, you must be very knowledgeable about marketing, or have a team to operate it.

For example, we have a client who builds a website specializing in a series of cleaning tools products, with over 100 products. His product selection team consists of 5 people, but the marketing team has over 10 people. They mainly run Facebook ads to test products. Once they identify hot-selling items, they find us for product sourcing and stocking.

Regarding the type of products to sell

Some people are good at spotting hot products and selling them fast, earning fast money. Usually, these trending items can be sold easily with just a bit of ad money. Also, the profits are often good too. After deducting advertising costs, there’s still some decent money left over. Every year, there are always some products that suddenly become very popular.

However, hot items in the market rise and fall quickly. That’s why businesses often opt for a transformation after gaining experience and capital from selling trending products. They switch to private label products, which allows them to build a brand and achieve long-term growth.

Under the private labeling model, Amazon remains a good option among all e-commerce platforms. Despite fierce competition on Amazon, it’s still the only platform where you can make money with just a few or even one product.

How China Product Agent support your dropshipping?

What are real words I’d like to tell you?

Don’t dwell on whether dropshipping is dead or profitable. There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to such questions. Different businesses use dropshipping for diverse purposes and take different approaches due to differences in available funds and expertise. So, the key lies in your initial intentions for using dropshipping and how you execute it.

Additionally, don’t trust those so-called ‘get-rich-quick tricks’ online. I can responsibly say that 99% of beginners, the information they come across, are often just “gurus” like training institutions, boasting without real understanding. Many of them haven’t even opened stores but are teaching others how to make money.

Truly successful people won’t readily disclose their secrets to success. And those who fail often just claim that dropshipping is dead. In short, you need to think comprehensively about these issues and stay alert.

AliExpress is often the first choice for dropshippers looking to source products for one-piece shipping. However, other sites can help you flexibly manage inventory at different stages of your dropshipping business.

Let me introduce these China dropshipping websites, and you’ll learn how our clients have built successful dropshipping businesses with a stable supply chain.

Why is AliExpress the go-to choice for new dropshippers?

It’s perfect for beginners because:

 • Over 100 million Chinese products are available for you to choose and test.
 • One single item is available, just like adding one product to your cart on Amazon.
 • Easily import AliExpress products to your Shopify or WooCommerce store with one click using plugins.
 • Most sellers support dropshipping services.
 • Good after-sales support.

In short, AliExpress is beginner-friendly, especially for those with limited budgets, allowing them to quickly test and validate product ideas with low risk.

Why choose China Product Agent over Alibaba for stocking inventory?

There are thousands of suppliers on Alibaba, but why don’t I recommend using it, especially when you have a wide variety of products?

It’s like the simple truth of making money—it’s out there, but not everyone finds the right way. That’s why you should outsource time-consuming tasks to experts and focus your limited energy on what matters most.

Once you’ve tested and found a product that sells well, don’t continue sourcing from AliExpress. You should place wholesale bulk orders to lower your costs with China Product Agent. They offer:

Strong Sourcing Expertise

Unlike dropshipping companies that work with wholesalers, China Product Agent connects you directly with factories for your purchases.

Flexible Inventory Solutions

Simple customizations, such as logo printing and packaging, are available at an affordable MOQ. They consolidate your goods for shipping to your consumer or warehouse.

Shorter Lead Times

Streamline the supply chain from samples to final products, ensuring smooth operations so you don’t have to worry about missed deliveries affecting your sales.

Good Quality Control

They perform strict quality checks before goods leave China—sometimes even inspecting every item—ensuring they arrive in perfect condition for your customers.

Perfect After-Sales Support

Their Smart OMS ensures 0 shipping errors. China Product Agent guarantees compensation for lost packages or defective items, giving you complete peace of mind with every order.

They don’t offer a product catalog or one-click import. Their services are ideal for optimizing supply and cutting costs for well-performing products.

Let China Product Agent optimize your supply and cut costs

AliExpress alternatives you can consider

Here are a few small-to-medium dropshipping sites that you can use as AliExpress alternatives. While they may not have as many products as AliExpress, they offer unique advantages, such as focusing on niche product categories, overseas warehouses in specific countries, and better after-sales support.

Banggood

Banggood has 30+ overseas warehouses for efficient delivery time.

Compared to AliExpress, Banggood has fewer products but excels in electronics. All products are sold and shipped directly by Banggood, with no third-party sellers, which can result in slightly higher prices than AliExpress.

LightInTheBox

Originally known for affordable wedding dresses, LightInTheBox has more advantages in the wedding and apparel categories. The main markets are the US, the UK, and EU countries. Additionally, LightInTheBox has been expanding into Southeast Asian markets since acquiring the local e-commerce platform Ezbuy in 2018.

CJDropshipping

CJDropshipping is a new platform with 2 US warehouses and some partner warehouses in the UK, Australia, and France for faster delivery.

They started with jewelry selling and have an advantage in that niche. They also offer custom options, like print-on-demand (POD) products that are printed and drop-shipped from China.

Sup Dropshipping

Sup Dropshipping is similar to CJ. For example, they also offer POD products, easy to design with templates. Differently, Sup has overseas warehouses, such as Japan, and the EU/US, to speed up delivery.

One thing to note is that you need to log in to see product prices. Additionally, the product descriptions are simple, mostly consisting of images, with some still in Chinese.

Nichedropshipping

Like CJ and Sup, this new dropshipping site offers one-stop services, product customization, and overseas warehouses. Note that they don’t have a product shopping mall. Instead, they list product categories, and when you click on a category, you can view 4 trending items along with additional details. You’ll need to submit an inquiry for more information and product sourcing.

90% of new sellers believe it’s enough if their products differ from the competition in looks, packaging, or features. Some even spend a lot of money developing new products to make them unique. However, both ways can lead you down the wrong path. Blindly developing new products is super risky, and anyone pushing you to do that is probably a cheater.

Actually, a lot of our new clients have managed to differentiate their products through one method: Bundling. It’s an effective strategy to make your product stand out at low costs. The key to this way lies not only in meeting the real needs of consumers but also in making them feel like they’ve got a bargain. Let me explain product bundling in detail in this post.

1. What is product bundling?

Product bundling is a sales strategy where sellers combine two or more products into a single package, often offering it at a discounted price compared to buying the items individually. Furthermore, the bundle items should be related or complementary, meaning they are designed to be used together.

2. What are the different types of product bundling?

There are 7 common types of product bundling in the market. We also share some bundling examples for your reference.

Mixed bundles

Mixed bundles refer to selling multiple, similar types of products in a pack. For example, our client sells dog supply sets on Amazon, which includes several rubber chew toys, rope toys, plush toys, training toys, and poop disposal tools. Right now, there’s no one on Amazon selling bundles exactly like hers. That’s because she selected all the product styles herself and had a designer customize the packaging box.

We helped the client source over a dozen products from various Chinese factories. Even though all the products were standard stock items, the process of purchasing and comparing took a really long time. This was because our agent had to compare numerous factories and create many prototypes from them, to ensure the products not only fit well in the box but also maintained consistent quality. In the end, we managed to match everything perfectly and package them all together.

Cross-sell bundles

Cross-sell bundles involve pairing a main product with one or more complementary items, which can also be sold individually.

For instance, a seller specializing in smartphones might offer a bundle that includes earbuds. Similarly, sellers of power banks often offer bundles packed with various charging cables. In the kitchen utensil industry, a bundle might consist of pans, spatulas, and spoons.

Gifting bundles

Gifting bundles consist of various products packaged together, allowing buyers to send them as gifts to others. These bundles are often designed around a theme, occasion, or the recipients’ interests.

Free People, a company that sells a wide range of products like clothing and accessories, offers several gift bundles on its website, particularly during holidays or for special occasions. For instance, there is a ‘Hike Gift Pack’ which includes six items: a jacket, a base layer, hiking pants, socks, a beanie, and a water bottle. Customers can purchase this bundle as a thoughtful gift for a friend who loves hiking.

Build-your-own bundles

It allows customers to choose the bundle items they prefer from a range of products to assemble a personalized bundle.

For example, Build-A-Bear Workshop is an American retailer known for its customized stuffed animals. Customers can personalize the bundle by selecting the animal, stuffing it, dressing it, and adding accessories.

It’s also commonly seen in fashion retail, where customers can pick different clothing items or accessories to form a set, or in food services, where customers can select components of a meal according to their taste preferences.

New product bundles

New product bundles combine newly launched items with existing popular products to spark interest and boost sales. This strategy helps new products gain exposure and acceptance more quickly by associating them with well-trusted items. For example, a beauty brand might bundle its staple products with trial-size versions of its latest launches.

Pure bundles

Pure bundling means that two or more products are sold exclusively within the bundle and not available for individual purchase. For example, a 4-piece bedding set often serves as a typical pure bundle. Such a set usually includes two pillowcases, a flat sheet, and a quilt cover, with none of these items available for separate purchase.

Buy-one-get-one bundles

Buy-one-get-one deals are those awesome promotions where you buy a product and get another one either for free or at a sweet discount. This strategy is commonly used to increase sales volume, clear out inventory, and attract customers by offering added value to their purchases.

3. What are the benefits of product bundling?

For sellers, product bundling helps to differentiate your products to improve the competition, as it’s hard for other sellers to replicate your bundles directly. Besides, this strategy can boost sales by encouraging customers to buy more items at once.

Moreover, it’s a good way to launch your new products by bundling them with your existing best-sellers. If you have inventory that doesn’t sell well, you can also bundle them with hot items to speed up sales and clear your warehouse space.

For buyers, purchasing product bundles can save costs, make it convenient to buy complementary products together, and even find new products they might not have considered.

4. Things you must know to improve your bundles

It’s worth mentioning that when deciding how to bundle your products, don’t just guess. Build your bundles based on what the market research tells you. Make sure to check out how your idea fits into the real world, including getting feedback from actual customers. If you bundle two products that don’t really go together, you might be the only buyer.

Also, the number of items in a bundle should match what people want, not just adding or removing items randomly. Take our client who sells cooking utensils bundles. After checking out the top sellers, which had 14 pieces, he decided to drop the unnecessary and less used ones, making a 12-piece set.

However, cutting down the number didn’t really reduce the cost. So, we asked our client whether his target customers prefer high quality or just acceptable quality. The cost mainly depends on the amount of silicone used. By using less, the spatulas get a bit thinner, which doesn’t affect their use but can significantly lower the cost. This way, the product price can be $8 cheaper than the best sellers. It’s clear that not everyone is after the highest quality; a lot prefer a decent quality at a lower price.

We'd like to hear from you,

The post What is White Label Product? Examples and Real Cases appeared first on .

]]>

Business people have heard of the “white label”. But many of them are confused about its exact meaning and wonder about white-label business examples, and good products to white label and sell. Today’s blog will address these high concerns about the white label.

What is a White Label Product?

White-label products are mass-produced products that can be used by multiple brands, requiring only the addition of their own logos or brand names. For example, you wholesale a batch of stainless steel water bottles in stock. Then, simply add your label and packaging boxes to sell these bottles under your own brand. This is what we call a white-label product.

It’s important to note that white-label products only permit alterations to packaging and labels. This is different from private labeling, whereby you can change the product size or other product specifications but typically necessitate more time and money. This is a major reason why white-label products are popular among small businesses and new starters.

Typically, white-label products have 5 key advantages.

Less risks. All white-label products are already sold and proven by the market. This is different from products made from scratch, whereby you’re uncertain about consumers’ willingness to buy.

Low initial investment. White-label products are readily available, with no minimum order value requirements, similar to the POD (Print on Demand) business model. And it costs a little to customize product packaging. This is the cheapest and simplest way to sell products under your brand, without a significant start-up cost.

Higher profit margins. Selling the same product as your competitors but changing the label and packaging is more able to generate profits. On the one hand, you can sell products at higher prices. On the other hand, attractive labels and packaging make it easier to draw customers’ attention and stimulate their desire to buy.

Start product sales faster. It’s easy and quick to make, stick labels, and repackage items.

More focus on product marketing and promotion.

One more thing, white-label products can be physical products as well as non-physical products, such as software services.

Japanese retailer PeboRa - PET bottle rice, prices increased tenfold.

Rebora, a company in Japan, has transformed traditional rice packaging into small beverage-style packaging for sale, priced between 400 to 900 Japanese yen. Each small bottle contains enough rice for one person for a day, and the bottles, when filled with water, provide the exact amount of water needed for cooking rice. This innovation caters to the needs of modern young people who prefer convenient rice cooking solutions, meeting the lazy economy.

Using plastic bottles as packaging materials, lightweight and easy to carry, has changed the impression of rice being heavy and needing to be lifted from below. Besides that, the colorful packaging highlights the brand of the rice prominently in large letters, catering to the aesthetic preferences of young people today. The annual sales volume exceeds 50,000 bottles.

PET bottle rice

Additionally, Rebora has introduced a diverse range of gift box sets. Some even contain various types of rice such as mixed grains, millet, brown rice, etc., meeting the different needs and preferences of consumers.

Although this is a phenomenal success of creative packaging by a large company, small business owners can still find inspiration. Large companies conduct extensive market research before launching new product packaging, including analyzing market trends, competitors, and the needs of target audiences. Small business owners can gain insights from this process and discover opportunities in niche markets.

Invalid.jp – white label LED car stickers

A college student spent $300 to start his LED car sticker side hustle Invalid.jp. Now it has more than $1 million in sales in less than two years.

Cool car stickers are niche products but not brand new. On Alibaba, you’ll find many suppliers offering the same LED car stickers in stock. And there are many e-commerce businesses selling such items on Amazon, Google sites, etc.

The major reason for Invalid.jp’s success is marketing. Besides traditional marketing channels like Facebook, the founder posts videos regularly on TikTok, sharing varied stickers and use effects. TikTok short video marketing works well for such cool and interesting products. One video featuring an LED-backed light-up sticker went viral, with more than 9 million views and counting. They turned into sales: $38,000 in a single day.

When browsing “LED car stickers” on TikTok, the first hot video is posted by Invalid. Currently, Invalid.jp has 160.8K followers and 3.7M likes on TikTok.

How to choose white label products?

The white label business model has become a preferred choice for many new e-commerce sellers as it enables them to rebrand and sell products quickly and affordably, without a significant investment in the beginning of their business. This approach is particularly friendly to newbies. If you’re considering starting to sell white-label products, there are several factors to take into account.

First, you should consider the cost of products. In other words, it decides the value of products and profits you can make.

Second, take into account the product heat, which means the sales volume and market shares of the product. The more popular it is, the better the sale is and the more profit you can get.

Third, you should also consider the ability of manufacturers, who decide the quality of products. Good suppliers will provide good products for you, while unscrupulous manufacturers will cause you a lot.

Top 10 types of white label products to sell and wholesale.

To be honest, there is no absolute standard to define a product that can be the best white-label product or not. This varies for different individuals. Even for the same type of white label product, the risks and benefits borne by different sellers are also different.

Here are 10 types of white label products for your reference.

1. Water Bottles

Water bottles are necessary for daily life, suitable for all ages with a wide range of usage. For different purposes of use, water bottles have different types. For example, water bottles for fitness should be in large capacity; while daily use for carrying conveniently, the bottle should be small and light. Except for usage purposes, materials of water bottles are different as well, including plastics, stainless steel, glass, resin material and so on.

Choosing water bottles as white label products helps sellers save energy and money on producing new products. This type of product requires molds for manufacturing. Making adjustments to existing bottles in terms of shape, size, and other aspects involves mold opening fees, ranging from a few thousand to several tens of thousands of dollars. Additionally, suppliers typically set high MOQ. All of these factors put significant pressure on small sellers.

2. Backpacks/ Handbags

Products of backpacks and handbags have a series of complicated processes from design, sample making to production, which has a high demand for manufacturing. If new and small companies want to make a bag product by themselves from zero to all, it would take them a lot of time and energy as well as money, and the choices of styles would be very limited as well, which goes against their purpose of entering the bag market quickly.

Therefore, choosing a white label product business model of bags can benefit sellers to focus on developing and marketing their own brand labels.

3. Baking Tools

Baking tools have many various types according to usages and materials with different names. This type of product has a great variety in production classification. Precisely, each type of baking tool has a single function, so its design would not change a lot and the production lot would be large. It has a high requirement for sellers’ sales ability. What’s more, baking tools are not products in high consumption, so most sellers are more suitable to choose a white label business model.

4. Bras

Chosen as white label products, bras are also suitable for small companies or new beginners. Bras have different kinds in various styles, materials and functions. A significant factor to produce bras is the model of each bra, which shows the design and craft degrees of the bra. Generally, small businesses do not have much experience in manufacturing bras, so the white label business model helps them get more styles of products in a short time.

5. LED Lights

The production of LED lights is more complex than ordinary products with various production requirements and materials. It needs more professional technologies and production levels. So before being independent and strong companies, most sellers who want to sell LED lights would opt for the white label model. To a great extent, it can solve the supply problem and make it stable.

6. Cosmetics and Makeup Tools

Cosmetics and makeup tools have various classifications, which have different productions requirements. Cosmetics products have more complicated requirements to research and produce because their materials include chemical components and are used for the human body relevant to health. What’s more, makeup tools like makeup brushes have many types with different production processes and requirements. The white label model of the products can bring more profits for sellers.

7. Glasses

Glasses are one of the top products in the white label model. Glasses have many types like sunglasses, 3D glasses and presbyopic glasses in different styles, materials, and functions. Usually, the production quantity of glasses is large, so many small businesses would choose the white label model. Meanwhile, the single cost of glasses is low, compared to other products. So this kind of white label product can be profitable for new beginners.

8. Toys

Toys have various classifications in styles, types and materials, and are suitable for children of different ages. A feature of toy products is that their renovation rate is high, which means updating fast. Therefore, it enhances the difficulty in researching and developing new tops for most sellers. Buying products from suppliers would help them make a profit better.

9. Stationery

Stationery has different types with various usages. In the stationery market, only some famous brands own the ability to develop new products on their own. The product quantity of stationery is quite large, and they are also in high consumption. So for most sellers, the white label model of selling stationery is better than producing by themselves.

10. Electronic Products and Accessories

Electronic products and accessories are suitable for choosing as white label products, especially those accessories of cell phones. For one thing, these products are in large production quantities with complicated designing and producing processes. Their types are various with different costs. For another, these products are in high consumption and relevant to our daily life, like USB cables, earphones.

As is well-known, profit in competitive markets demands substantial investments in inventory and advertising. Choosing niche products lowers market entry barriers. Today’s article will explain niche products from the following key aspects:

What is a niche product?

A niche product is like a small and specialized subset of products. It allows you to precisely target consumers within a particular category, so you can focus on meeting these specific, unique needs.

For instance, socks are general consumer goods. Sports socks are tailored for individuals participating in various sports. Depending on the sport, they can be further subcategorized into yoga socks, running socks, basketball socks, skiing socks, equestrian riding socks, and so on.

In this example, you are catering to a narrower but more focused customer base by providing specialized socks, rather than trying to appeal to the general public. This way, you address these consumers’ issues and provide what they genuinely desire. As a result, they are more likely to visit your online store for the “right product.” Essentially, you’re establishing a position in a smaller market segment, known as a product niche, enhancing your competitive edge.

What are niche products examples? (2 real business case analyses)

For instance, candles represent a mass market example, while aromatherapy or scented candles fall under the niche market category. And this can be more specific as crystal aromatherapy candles.

Similar examples include organic pet food, more specifically to be cat or dog organic food. Fishing rods constitute a niche within fishing gear, while Hanfu is a niche within women’s clothing. Rechargeable scents target car interiors, and beverage holders cater to sofas. Additionally, there are highly specialized niches that may involve selling 1-3 products and utilizing diverse marketing strategies within that focused segment.

Real niche business case 1

Porkysplash.com is a Google E-commerce website established in April 2023 according to Whois, only sells a single type of piggy squeeze toy in two available sizes and with specific discounted offers as outlined below.

The business owner is already experiencing success. Why? Well, the specialized niche product incorporates a charming pig design and stress-relief functionality, catering to the growing needs of modern people facing high work pressure and a fast-paced lifestyle.

Notably, this business has effectively utilized social media. On May 28th, 2023, the first short video was released on TikTok. The video updating frequency is one or more days, showcasing the piggy toy being squeezed and tossed to emphasize its stress-relieving functions and good quality. Plus, all videos are shot from a first-person perspective. This way, viewers feel immersed and resonate emotionally, thus generating a buying desire.

Coupled with trending hashtags like #satisfying and #asmr, which also highlight the product’s attributes, video views remain steady at a range from 150k+ to 300+ million, accompanied by 800k+ followers. All these boosts both its popularity and sales. This method is certainly worth considering for our own strategies.

The viral trend on TikTok also fueled a sharp increase in global search interest for “Piggy Squeeze Toy” on Google Trends from June to July 2023, reaching a peak score of 100.

Real niche business case 2

Hall Madden is a Google E-commerce website established in 2010. The two founders possess 25 years of expertise in garment fitting and menswear manufacturing. They dedicate themselves to the niche tracks of custom suits, shirts, and tuxedos for a targeted audience.

In terms of marketing, 90% of the traffic originates from Reddit, while a small portion comes from Instagram and LinkedIn, as indicated by Similarweb data.

There is a wealth of valuable, useful information on Reddit, rather than primarily marketing content. It’s akin to checking ratings and comments on IMDb for the latest movies.

Hall Madden has actively engaged in Reddit’s male fashion advice community, which is precise and the largest men’s fashion community boasting 5.5 million members. Although they haven’t posted many threads, they provide insightful and professional responses to others’ inquiries, garnering over 70 upvotes and comments. Additionally, in May 2023, a customer left a detailed and appreciative review for Hall Madden’s custom suits and wedding attire, receiving over 100 upvotes. Moreover, the comments indicate a positive brand influence for Hall Madden.

In addition, Hall Madden has also invested time and money into Google SEO and shopping ads, primarily targeting the US market. Over the years, Hall Madden has been steadily establishing its unique brand identity.

Specific niches vs selling a variety?

Indeed, many entrepreneurs begin with trendy products for quick profits, yet sustainability is often lacking.

This approach is frequent in general stores, selling a dozen or even more types of products and utilizing a dropshipping model at the business start. Imaging the vast array of products, it’s hard to maintain inventory for all these items and often drains your energy. Because this business model relies heavily on paid advertising to drive traffic. Once the ads stop, traffic decreases, making it difficult to sustain and build a substantial brand influence.

Moreover, after-sales problems arise as you can’t inspect products but entirely rely on your suppliers. Unstable supply chains lead to complaints, impacting store performance and risking account suspension. While there might be some profit, the effort required is significant, and profits can dwindle over time, let alone foster customer loyalty and brand trust.

After gaining experience and capital through selling a variety, businesses often switch to a niche strategy. Different product niches require distinct marketing approaches. If you target US female consumers, consider Pinterest. It’s like a visual Twitter, so you’d better ensure your product images are eye-catching enough to encourage users to click.

Even within the same niche item, people may take different approaches due to differences in available funds and expertise. Some are Instagram influencers with substantial followings, while some excel in the operations of the Reddit community, Facebook community, and YouTube videos.

They use their resources and strengths, aligning them with the preferences and demands of their target consumer base to select suitable marketing channels for promoting and selling products, ultimately enhancing brand awareness.

Advantages of selling products in a niche market

1. Less Competition

Compared to general items for selling, offering niche items narrows your competition. And you only have to compete with those businesses that include similar items as yours.

2. Complete Focus

Another great advantage of a niche product is that you can focus on satisfying a particular group of potential buyers instead of understanding different customer behaviors.

You can create customer-specific strategies for branding and pricing to attract more potential customers to your eCommerce store.

3. Loyal Customers

When you have a niche product to sell, you can concentrate on fulfilling your brand promise. As a result, offering a high-quality niche product to buyers will help you convert potential customers into loyal ones.

4. High-Profit Margins

If you are able to select a highly demanding niche product with a fewer competition, the chances are that you can enjoy maximum profit margins on selling each unit. In addition, you need to find reliable suppliers for your niche products with quality assured and good prices, so as to achieve your profit goals.

How to Find Best Niche Products?

1. Select a niche you're passionate about.

For instance, if you enjoy fishing, you would likely know which types of bait or fishing rods sell well. If you love golf, you’ll be familiar with golf bags and know what product description resonates with consumers to prompt them to buy. When it’s a market you’re passionate about, you know relevant communities and groups well, so it’s easier for you to identify opportune moments to promote your products.

2. Get niche ideas via Google, Amazon, social media, and communities

Search a certain product category on Google, Amazon, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Reddit, Quora, etc. Then, analyze user behaviors and interests. This will give you the best idea to find a niche product for your eCommerce business.

Take “pet supplies” for example, you can also offer products for rabbits, turtles, parrots, and other pets, not just the mainstream dogs and cats. Furthermore, within pet supplies, you can segment further into pet toys, accessories, clothing, food, and medicines. You can also tailor your offerings for specific holidays, like Christmas-themed cat clothes, beds, and accessories. Keep in mind that niche products should be specific enough without limiting each market to just one item.

By the way, many businesses would like to source niche ideas from professional, large Chinese suppliers like China Product Agent.

3. Read customer reviews

After finding a niche product, visit platforms like Amazon and AliExpress. Review customer ratings and feedback to spark creative ideas. Note what works and areas for improvement, shaping your product to match consumer needs.

4. Ensure the product can solve issues of your potential customers

Ask yourself some questions: whether your product can really solve a problem? What advantages do your potential competitors have? What are my strengths and weaknesses?

Remember, your niche product doesn’t have to be complex or extensive. A simple yet effective product can have a remarkable impact.

Case Study: Decibullz

Kyle Kirkpatrick, the former Gymnastics coach in the US, designed earbuds in 2014 to make sure that athletes were not distracted when listening to music during their practice.

He launched his own brand, Decibullz, which offered earbuds to fit the ears comfortably and don’t lose their place, whether the athletes were running or performing flips on the trampoline. Previously, the product was available, but it was expensive and unable to solve the problem.

However, Kirkpatrick solved a problem by offering a niche product to a specific audience in the beginning. And now his company offers hearing protection devices, attracting potential buyers from other segments, such as public safety and security people.

This case study is one of the best examples of working on a niche product that can enhance your business.

5. Research niche product market status, trend, and profit margins

Utilize keyword tools like Google Keyword Planner to see the monthly search volume for the product. Analyze the product trends using Google Trends before selling in a niche market.

Take “mushroom decor” as an example; Google Trends reveals a growing worldwide interest, peaking at a score of 100 in June 2023. The majority of the interested audience is from Europe and North America, notably the US. This enhances your confidence in the product’s market.

Regarding profits, pricier products often yield higher returns. However, with a limited budget, you can seek low-cost products, leading to a high return on investment. Yet, affordability doesn’t equate to compromising quality. If with enough capital, you can choose a bit more expensive but profitable products, as they assure high-profit margins compared to economical items.

As a leading sourcing company in China, China Product Agent has helped 4000+ clients source various niche products. Most of them are Amazon sellers in the US and EU markets. Whether you’re creating entirely new products or making changes to existing ones such as custom packaging and appearance/functional modifications, we’re here to make it happen and set your products apart from competitors.

Equally important, our agents will help you find a factory that can produce them at a competitive price. And we follow up on production, inspect finished products and arrange shipments to your place at the best rates.

If you sell products in European countries, you will find it required to affix the CE mark on products for legal sales. For many beginners to sell in the EU markets, they may not be quite clear about the regulations and directives of CE marking and whether their products are required for the marking or not.

So today this post will tell you what the CE mark is, and introduce the requirements for importers and manufacturers, as well as general principles and requirements for CE marking.

Now follow us to know about CE marking.

What is CE Marking Meaning?

eea-ce marking
ce mark

If you purchase products in the EEA, you will find the CE marking affixed on the products or their packages. Actually, this CE mark is just like the passport of these products for selling in the EU markets.

“CE” is short from the Origin French Conformité Européene, which means meeting European standards; the CE mark is the symbol of CE certification in accordance with European product regulations and standards. It’s a mandatory mark affixed on products when they enter the EU markets for sales.

CE Marking in EU and UK

As mentioned above, the CE mark is a mandatory mark used within the EU markets. But a special political event—Brexit, changes the application area of this mark.

Before Brexit

All the countries and districts of the EU apply the CE marking directives and require the CE mark on products uniformly, including the UK markets. And this mark is mandatorily required for most categories of products.

After Brexit

On January 30th, 2020, Britain officially exited the European Union. After that, many rules and regulations of the EU no longer apply to Britain, which includes the CE marking.

Meanwhile, other countries and districts in the EU area are still required to use the CE mark on products.

But it does not mean products on the UK market will not require any product mark anymore. Instead, the UK government introduced a new policy of the UKCA mark to replace the CE mark.

If your products are manufactured and placed on the EU market, the CE mark is still required for it. But if you want to sell it on the UK market as well, you have to affix another UKCA mark on your products.

The new mark has come into official use since Jan 1st, 2021. But due to many existing products on the market already affixed with the CE mark, the UK government decided to extend its usage until 31st Dec 2022.

After that time, all the products sold in the UK markets should be affixed with the UKCA mark. However, the UK government introduced special regulations for using the marks: the CE mark can still be used in Northern Ireland, and the other three districts (England, Scotland and Wales) should use the UKCA mark.

Relations between UKCA & CE mark

Actually, both UKCA and CE marks play the same role for products, just applied in different areas and markets. The product categories, technical requirements and conformity assessment procedures of the two marks are the same.

You can get more about the relations between UKCA and CE mark in another post.

What're CE Marking Requirements?

CE making has been available in the EEA markets since 1993 (nearly 30 countries). It is applied to products imported from countries outside the EU, like China, and also products manufactured within EU countries.

For example, when you buy a phone or a light in the EU markets, you can find the CE mark on these products. Without the mark, it means this phone or light is not reliable enough.

As for concrete CE marking requirements, the mark “CE” on products is required to be visible, legible and indelible. Also, the two letters should be clear in accordance with the required size (unless the product category has different requirements).

If you’re not sure about the mark, you can download the original mark from the official website of the EU.

What Products Require CE Mark?

The CE marking is the “passport” of products sold in the EU markets. But there are various categories and types of products like medical devices, so not all the products are required to affix the mark strictly.

According to CE marking directives and regulations by the EU, different product categories apply to respective directives and requirements.

At present, over 20 CE marking directives and regulations are in respective applications, and everyone includes certain product types and scope, indicating corresponding requirements for the manufacturers, importers and distributors.

The main product categories of directives and regulations are as follows:

You can also check more rules of product categories on its official website.

According to the directives, importers and manufacturers of products should attach importance to the CE marking on products:

 • Importers need to verify the products of the manufacturer are compliant to make sure they can sell the product in the EU safely.
 • Manufacturers should do the CE certification legally according to the product requirements.

So before selling products in the EU markets, you’d better check if your products are required to affix this mark or not, or it will not be allowed to sell normally.

How to Get CE Mark?

To get the CE mark, you should do the CE mark certification for your products. This part will list the following steps for getting the CE mark for your products:

 • Ensure the applied EU directives for your product category;
 • Get the compulsory requirements for your products;
 • Ensure your product meets all the basic requirements of the Directive.
 • Prepare required documents for your products;
 • Find a certification body to do CE certification;
 • Test and assess your products;
 • Save the technical document;
 • Get conformity declaration and CE mark approval

After getting the CE marking, you should affix it on your products according to the required rules. Pay attention, don’t affix it randomly, or it will be neglected or regarded as useless.

When is CE Marking not Required?

The answer to this question should depend on the countries and districts in Europe. In the EEA area, CE marking is required and valid permanently. In the UK, the CE marking has been replaced by the new UKCA mark since Jan 1st, 2021. But considering the pre-existing stock and adaption time of all businesses, the CE mark for some products in the UK market will be valid before 31st Dec 2022. So from 1st Jan 2023, CE marking will not be required in the UK.

What if Products are not Affixed with the CE Mark?

If your products sell in the EEA markets, you must affix the CE on your product, or your product will be not allowed to sell in the area. Someone may sell products without the mark, but once found, fines and penalties are waiting for you.

Will the USA Accept CE Marking?

No, the US market will not accept CE marking. As mentioned above, the directives and requirements of CE marking are according to EU regulations and standards. So this mark is only available in EU countries. As for the US market, it has its own certificates and required marks for products, like FCC. CE and FCC have different compliance standards.

You may see products with many marks, including CE marking, that can be accepted in the US market, but it does not mean the USA accepts CE marking.

What're Benefits of CE Marking?

The mandatory requirements of CE marking are to protect the safety of life and property in the European Union and it regulates the market environment and market order effectively.

With the CE on products, customers will regard the product they buy as reliable ones, which indicates the products have passed strict tests and verification; sellers can sell their products on the EU markets legally, and they can use this mark to prove the conformity of their own products.

The End

We hope this post will help you know the necessary things about CE marking in the EU and UK better if you sell your products in these markets. If you’re still confused about CE marking, please leave your comments or questions, and we will give you more detailed explanations.
